What are CSPO and PSPO? What are the differences between CSPO and PSPO? Here, I will provide you a short overview of CSPO vs. PSPO comparison. Let’s start.
One of the most important roles in any company is that of the product owner. He is responsible for delivering value across the board, including the projects created by the development team. The PSPO and the CSPO can relate to the product owner in a Scrum framework.
In general, the product owner is the key stakeholder of a project. Part of their responsibilities involves the vision of what they want to convey to a team, and it is one of the key aspects of a software development project. The product backlog is one of the most important aspects of the list for a product.
A product owner works on the product, understands the key benefits, understands thinking behind design and customer experience and prioritizes collaboration. We’ve tried to demonstrate and differentiate the key differences between the two below.
CSPO Vs. PSPO Comparison
Product owners generally are required to complete the PSPO or CSPO certifications and they relate to the ownership of products that require smart tactical acumen of businesses and an ability to create product visions and a knack for creating a roadmap. There are advantages of both, and you can learn all about the rules, principles, techniques, and principles to become more successful and effective.

What is the CSPO?
The Certified Scrum Product Owner or CSPO is someone who understands and is thought the practices, terminologies, principles and other core aspects taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer. This will enable them to fulfill and complete the role of a Scrum Product Owner and remain successful in managing projects in the future. You could get a lowdown on the Certified Scrum Product Owner certification training in Pune to understand it better.
What is the PSPO?
The Professional Scrum Product Owner or PSPO is the certification and course offered by the organization called Scrum.org. The mission of the same is to “Improve the profession of Software Development.” They focus on the betterment of the software aspects of a project and make it simpler to understand for even the layman.
The PSPO is offered by Scrum.org, while CSPO is offered by the Scrum Alliance. At their core, they are both designed especially for a Product Owner role. They are both of a high standard and require the passing of an online examination after attending a 2-day course by a Certified trainer.
Key Differences Between CSPO and PSPO
CSPO course in Hyderabad requires a basic understanding of the course, and training sessions are necessary to grasp the main aspects of the same. However, there are continuing credit requirements for education that needs to be renewed every few years.
The certification for a PSPO requires an online exam that doesn’t need the prerequisite of attending the PSPO course. Also, the certifications offered by Scrum.org are forever and do not expire. The PSPO certification, however, doesn’t require any renewal and can be done once and completed.
You must have a decent understanding of a product owner role to study either of the courses, though a minimal knowledge of both is fine. Once the PSPO is earned, the credentials do not expire.
For CSPOs however, renewals require at least a minimum of 20 Scrum educational units that are earned over the last two years and generally involve a renewal fee as well.
PSPOs have workshops that need to be attended and could cost around $500 but the certification license is around $200. For CSPOs, the cost of the workshop varies across the world and the license is $500. PSPO also doesn’t require the necessity to take up a course while earning a CSPO certificate requires a 2-day classroom training course from a CST affiliated to the Scrum Alliance.
To Conclude
CSPO helps understand the working model of Scrum and the role of the product owner with regard to working in a team with Scrum. The PSPO helps in developing a strong understanding of the PO role and maximizing all of the software systems and products in the project.
PSPO may be slightly harder compared to CSPO. It, however, doesn’t require you to attend a workshop in-person. The certification can be prepped on your own and you can proceed for the examination directly. There is also a lifetime validity that doesn’t require renewal.
The competence or knowledge in a subject must be evaluated with respect to the process for assessment. Also, the cost is a factor along with validity. You must prove your abilities to your employers irrespective of which course you choose and the certification is a way in which you can reach out to your recruiters and get noticed by potential employers and begin your career as a Product Owner.

You can get CSPO if you want the certification fast and without learning to much to get it. You’ll understand the basic concepts. From my personal experience, the PSPO certification is hard to get, it involves an exam (80 questions in 60 minutes) and self-study is not enough to pass it. But it is worth it because you’ll get to understand many scenarios from that test.
The Product owner certifications from Scrum Alliance and Scrum.org seems to be same and it doesn’t make any sense to go after both.
PSPO certifications from Scrum.org looks better in comparison.
No consistent course material(Trainers quality)and renewal required every 2 years are big negative for CSPO.
Thanks for this motivating informative content.
Certification is a challenging sector which acts as a self-motivator and also helps in gaining the recognition among team members. It is the best mix of CSPO and PSPO.
