7 Tips to Boost Your Site’s Conversion Rate Using Images

Nilantha Jayawardhana. Last updated on Jul 25, 2020.

How to boost your site’s conversion rate using images? In this post I will show you 7 ways to use images to increase your conversion rates.

Would you buy something if you haven’t seen it yet? The majority of consumers would not. Most of us would even want to hold it or touch it. When we purchase a car, we want to take it for a spin before making a final decision. Unfortunately, these things are not possible online.

Thus, as an online seller, you need to ensure that your products become alive using beautiful graphics and convincing photography.

Most successful websites with increased conversions sell their products with high-quality images to allow their products shine. One of the things you can do is to choose a default image of your product and show it in full size. Then, display the other images of your product in clickable thumbnails.

What are the other ways to boost your site’s conversion rate using images?

  • 2. Show the images in context

  • 4. Don’t use cheesy stock photos
  • 5. Use 360 degrees rotating images
  • 6. Use a mascot
  • 7. Convince your audience that your product works
  • How to use images to increase your conversion rates.

1. Show as many images as you can

But make sure that they are from different angles. For example, if you’re selling a pair of shoes, photograph them so that your customers can see all of the views on your product page. It is much better than just having one photo of the shoe. By showing your product in different angles, your customers will get a feel of it.

However, don’t just show photos in different angles. Rather, ensure that the images show character and they carry your brand.

2. Show the images in context

To further improve your site’s conversion rate with images, make sure that you show your product in context. Allow your customers to imagine your product using it.

For instance, if you’re selling a bag, show to your customers how it looks like when someone carries it. Doing so will guarantee that your images communicate with your audience better. You’re making your customer feel just right.

That said when you include someone in the photo, like a person carrying the bag, ensure that the person brings out positive emotions. Your model can smile to make your customers feel good or happy. If they feel the connection, they’ll agree with you and purchase your product.

3. Use zoom in

Zoom in feature is one of the most popular features. It’s a nifty feature, especially if you’re selling an item with ornate details. This feature allows them to see all the information or details in the image. It enables visitors to read an area of your image that is too small for them to see and zooming in will do the trick.

Even if your site is responsive, adding this feature is useful because the resolution of mobile devices is not standard. Most of your users would expect that all sites have this feature. And if you don’t have one on your site, then you are giving them a worse user experience than if they did not look for this feature but they accidentally did so.

I’ve been using Cloudways since January 2016 for this blog. I happily recommend Cloudways to my readers because I am a proud customer.

The good thing is that there are plenty of plugins that you can use to allow your customers enlarge your images for enhanced viewing. This feature is a powerful tool for better conversions as it enables potential customers to get up close with the products.

4. Don’t use cheesy stock photos

People pay a lot of attention to images. Stock photos, no matter how beautiful the models are, your visitors will ignore them. That’s because they want to see real people.

Thus, don’t use photos with people in suits shaking hands. You can use your smartphone to photograph your product with someone using it. If you’re selling a blender or a laptop cover, you can capture someone using it; it can be your employee, actual customer or you.

5. Use 360 degrees rotating images

Another way to boost your conversion rate using images is to use 360 degrees rotating images. Before, business owners used conventional images, like showing the front and back of a model wearing a dress, for instance. However, if you wish to boost your conversion rates using images, try adding a 360-degree spin to your images that rotate automatically when your visitors go to a particular product page.

This trick is also one of the real estate photography tips you can try to your website. Allow your visitors to take a spin to the property as if they’ve explored it in person.

6. Use a mascot

MailChimp and SEO Moz are just two of the most popular sites with a mascot. MailChimp has Freddie the mascot. Why did the company use it to represent the company? Chimpanzee is a symbol of playfulness that conveys the company’s easy to use service. His look is not just unique, but it also speaks a lot of the organization.

Another example is the alligator of HostGator. Who would have thought that this character could become a successful brand spokesman! Alligator is said to be a symbol of strength and power. And that’s one of the reasons HostGator used it because it wants to convey to its customers that it’s a company that they can trust. The alligator is deeply incorporated into the company’s overall presence. It’s always the leading character.

7. Convince your audience that your product works

TV commercials work because of the models and actors who praise and love the product they’re endorsing. It works because people prefer having a third opinion.

Since they can’t touch or feel your product or they don’t know whether or not your service works, they want a third opinion. Thus, when they see that your actual customers are happy with your product, they’re convinced. For that reason, websites that show photos of their satisfied customers are getting high conversion rates.

To implement it in your websites, ask your customers to review your product and request their photos. Make sure that you ask their permission to showcase their photos on your website.

On neilpatel.com, you’ll find some snippets of testimonial reviews of Neil Patel’s current clients, like Google, Intel, and Microsoft. Neil included images of his customers or the logos of the brands. What’s more is that the testimonials are not buried deep down. Instead, he showed the snippets at the above fold to make sure that his prospects will feel at home. It’s also a way for him to show that his service is a trustworthy one.
