SEO is going mobile. What’s the future of mobile SEO? For 2020, the memorandum for SEO industry is crystal clear: Devise your website in a mobile user-friendly manner. Do this, or be left behind by your competitors.
Keeping up with the trends in SEO is not something that you can do easily as a webmaster or website owner, it is something that you need to do to stay pertinent in the digital society. You should know that SEO is a necessary aspect of business, most especially if you want to capitalize on the online presence of your business or other purposes.

Business people and entrepreneurs alike need to create a strategy to ensure that their current and potential clients will have easy access to their website while enjoying a legitimate and sustainable SEO practices at the same time.
The Mobile Evolution
Last year, mobile surpassed desktop as the primary device used to access websites. This is not a big surprise though, because way back in 2015, Google announced that researchers prefer to use mobile than any other device.
It’s safe to say that mobile has well and truly arrived. Of course, responsive designs for desktops are fairly well-established and have been around for awhile now, but many sites still fall flat in the usability department.
This means that websites still engage to the desktop before it dials back to mobile. This little inconvenience on the desktop due to the form-fill scheme is an absolute advantage for mobile.

What Google Really Wants
What Google wants is to enchant the mobile users to improve on-page ranking factors and engagements. It’s a win-win situation for the search engine and the users!
This year, many SEO companies like SEO Brisbane are referring and looking forward to the best SEO practices posts. Even Gary Illyes, the webmaster trends analyst of Google compliments those people who suggested that mobile is the big trend for 2020.
There are three important stats from Google’s promotional materials which illustrate the significance of mobile optimization.
- More people use mobile phones than computers when searching online.
- There’s a five times probability that people will leave a site if it’s not mobile friendly.
- The majority of mobile users leave a website if it takes more than three seconds to load a website.
The factors above are the reason why mobile generates more reviews than desktops. Users don’t stick to your site if it’s not mobile friendly, they don’t even wait for the page to load if your site is too slow.
What is Mobile-First Index?
Mobile-First Index is a shift to using mobile versions of websites to generate ranking from the traditional desktop search engine indexing.
The strategy for mobile first indexing is a plan to guarantee that ranking reflects the real situation which is, of course, the majority of online searches take place on mobile devices.
This also means that in 2020, SEO will be establishing a ground through content that is on mobile sites in opposition to the old methodology where rankings are determined by desktop sites even if the searches take place on mobile devices. The shift will lead to changes wherein search rankings will be generated conforming to the mobile version of the web content even if you are searching from a computer.
When this happens, the links and contents of the mobiles sites along with other factors like user experience and speed will become the critical drivers for search engine visibility. Of course, desktops will still be factors, but it will no longer be the central platform.

What Will Be The Changes?
Just like other SEO trends in the past, mobile-first indexing will also bring changes to the facets of Google rankings, most of which are for long terms.
In a short time, there will be impacts with regards to rankings on search engines. Google will continue to run mobile indexing on desktops for its ranking but will transition gradually to mobile indexing.
However, it’s critical to check the content of the mobile too because previously, mobile contents had lower quantity and quality grade compared to the desktop versions of the same website. But no need to hesitate, this will change this year. Content mobile will be the new priority area in SEO strategies for 2020.
Do Emerging Trends For SEO Affect Current Ranking?
In the immediate to short term, there will be minor changes in ranking due to the Google’s conscious efforts of trying not to upset things too much.
In the long run, however, the changes in rankings will be more visible and those who fail to welcome the changes will either fall or get left behind.
SEO trends and sectors demand that you give serious attention to mobile contents to retain your current ranking or improve it.
Final Thoughts on Mobile SEO
Competitive advantages are not that easy to conjure, especially in the SEO market where trends come and go on almost a daily basis. Now, if you’re going to ask me, is mobile-first indexing the takeaway for 2020? Yes, if you’ve established the fundamentals of SEO. Concentrate on the mobile users, and you’re sure to leave your competitors in the digital dust.

Thanks for this post! This is why I favor using WordPress for the websites I create. All WordPress websites are automatically mobile friendly. Plus they are simple to edit and respond very well to SEO.
In very short time a huge informative information for us. Thank you
In 2009 we used to have an e-commerce website on page one and would bring in about $3,000 a month with it.
Then it lost rankings…
In 2018 we got it back to page one and were making about $500 a month…
Now it’s in the top #3 and sales are above $4,000.
My experience is that top #3 rankings sell better now because of mobile, and page one only rankings sell less than before!

Really interesting post on mobile SEO – it is amazing that not every business takes this seriously despite how many times Google (and others) tell website owners how important it is!
Although design elements of mobile sites are now fairly well advanced (responsive has been around for ages!) I think we still have a bit of catching up to do in the content strategy and marketing fields. For example, we know that posts above 2,000 words generally get more shares than shorter pieces – but do users read 2,000 words on a mobile device? Are people sharing but not actually reading? Are they bookmarking in order to read longer pieces on a longer screen?
There’s a lot of questions to work through and I think this post really helps so thanks very much!
Thank you very much for sharing with us. This is really brilliant & informative Idea. I really much appreciate
