I’ve been using Cloudways since January 2016 for this blog. I happily recommend Cloudways to my readers because I am a proud customer.
Designing is very easy. There are lots of WordPress templates (themes) in Internet. Choose a template; add your text and you are ready to go live. Themeforest, DIYthemes, Elegant Themes and StudioPress provide the most flexible and popular WordPress themes.
02. You must use a clean design.
Forget the multi colored websites with flashing buttons and banners with loud backgrounds. Choose a color scheme with three mild colors for your web pages. One should be your background (white, light blue, beige work well). Use one or two other colors for your link buttons, header and other design elements.
03. Use one or two column template (like Wo) to design.
More columns will give a headache to visitors. Clean design will grasp (retain) the visitors to your website. More and more people are dropping the multiple columns and going with a simple one or two column template (theme).
04. Use simple navigations.
Put easily understandable navigation to the website. It will help to the visitors to understand the content of your website. You can use main menu also side menu to ease the navigation. It is good if your website’s home page (index page) have the links to the all of pages. Keep your navigation clean. Put the most important information to the homepage, secondary information only a click away. Don’t put the four or five clicks from the homepage to the information. If it has to be that far from the homepage, it is not important. Eliminate it.
05. Use larger fonts and white space rules.
To make your pages easier to read, it is important to use larger fonts at least 14 px and black color fonts in white background. It is not a pain to eyes. Most popular fonts for website are Arial, Georgia, Helvetica, Verdana and Times New Roman.

There are lots of responsive templates in Internet. Themeforest, StudioPress, Elegant Themes, DIYThemes provides good responsive templates collection. Using a responsive template your website displays optimally in all browsers. I use Monochrome Pro WordPress theme by Studiopress, it automatically loads optimally on phones, tablets, etc.
07. Include a home button on every page.
This way, your visitors won’t need to click the back button on their web browsers ten times to get your website’s homepage. Website visitors click the home button to return to homepage. Many theme developers these days use the home button on every page.
For example, the React framework allows you to quickly prototype and build web and mobile applications with a simple navigation that includes a home button. The good news is React Admin Templates offers hundreds of components and excellent theme support!
08. Don’t use icon links.
It is better, if every link should be a text link. It is okay to have a rectangular button, or other button shapes, but they should have word on top of them, such as “contact”, “home”, “purchase” and so forth.
09. While we are on the subject, no pop-up windows.
People do not like to pop-up windows. Their web-viewing experience interrupted by pop-up windows (especially ads). Don’t put the advertisements that are harassment to the people.
10. Cut down the unnecessary costs
I heard some people say that they spent thousands of dollars to build their website. I don’t recommend it.
Do not purchase additional features from web hosting provider. Hosting companies recommend you to purchase their additional features like domain privacy protection, SiteLock domain security, site backup, SEO, etc. But, I recommend you purchase domain name and hosting only. If you need other features, purchase them their official website.
